Make Basic Finnish Makaroonilaatikko

The number one favourite dish for the Finns must be the Makaroonilaatikko. It is easy to make and a delicious meal that everybody loves. There are hundreds of different variations but I am going to show you bake my version of the basic Macaroni Casserole.


Instructions








1. Boil the macaroni by following the instructions on the package. Add some salt in the boiling water to add flavour.


Pre-heat your oven to medium heat (200C).


2. Cook the minced meat and one chopped onion on a frying pan until the meat is completely cooked. Add salt and pepper to add flavour. You could add other spices according to your taste. Try barbecue mix or cayenne pepper.


3. Mix the macaroni, onions and meat together in an oven dish.


Beat the eggs and add them into the milk. Pour the mixture over your macaroni and meat mix.


Sprinkle some grated cheese on top.


4. Bake the Makaroonilaatikko for about 45 minutes. The dish is perfect when the egg and milk mixture is completely absorbed.


Enjoy with ketchup and a smile.
