Setting an oven timer or cell phone alarm will remind you that a cobbler is in the oven.
Cooking and baking can get chaotic at times, especially when you're preparing more than one dish at the same time. Once in a while, even the most attentive cook will slip up and accidentally forget something in the oven and let it burn. Pastries such as pies, cakes and cobblers can be fickle in that they must be watched closely to ensure that they are baked all the way through yet don't burn. If you find yourself with a burnt cobbler on your hands, there are a few different ways to go about fixing it instead of throwing it away.
Instructions
1. Remove the cobbler from the oven with a pair of oven mitts or potholders and place it on a countertop or table. The longer your cobbler stays in the oven, the more burnt it will get.
2. Cut and remove any burnt areas of the cobbler with a serrated knife. The burnt taste should be exclusive only to those areas, so removing them should preserve the cobbler's good taste.
3. Cover up the cutout areas with icing, whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream to keep the cobbler looking delectable.
4. Add sugar or additional fruit to the cobbler. Add brown or granulated sugar (your choice) as needed to taste to help sweeten the cobbler or add an additional can of filling or cut-up fresh fruit. Adding more fruit and using sugar to bring out the flavor of the fruit inside will help counteract the burnt taste.
