Make Bread Bowls For Dip

Make Bread Bowls for Dip

Using a bread bowl is a fun way to serve your favorite dip to party guests. No matter if you make a large bowl or several individual ones, you know that you will not have the hassle of cleaning the empty dishes.

Bread bowls can be versatile in use because they can also hold creamy soups and stews as well as dip.

This recipe for a bread bowl is a little time consuming but well worth the effort.

Instructions

1. Dissolve sugar and the package of yeast in water in a small bowl.

2. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl to make the dough. Cut shortening into the flour mixture by using a fork or pastry cutter. The mixture should resemble fine crumbs.

3. Stir the yeast mixture and small amounts of buttermilk. Blend until dough forms a ball.

4. Knead. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough in flour and knead for at least 1 minute. Cover and allow dough to rest for 10 minutes.

5. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease the outside of a small oven-safe bowl. Place upside down on a cookie sheet.

6. Roll out the dough to cover the size of the perimeter of the bowl. Shape dough around the rim of the bowl, but do not allow the dough to curl under the edge.

7. Bake bread for 18 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. When baked, carefully remove the bread bowl from the mold. Cool upright on a rack.
