Make A Ham Glaze

A ham can be a tasty main course for any special occasion.

Ham is a treasured dish for special occasions and few things bring out the flavor of a ham like a sweet glaze. Along with the unique flavor, your glaze can add moisture to the inside of your ham with a few injections from your turkey needle. You can liven up your next ham with a tropical glaze that uses a pineapple base to flavor your main course. The combination of pineapple, brown sugar and cherries creates a unique, sweet glaze that your family is sure to appreciate.

Instructions

1. Combine 1 1/2 cups crushed pineapple, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 4 tsp. cornstarch and 1 1/2 tsp. dry mustard in a saucepan. Mix thoroughly.

2. Place your saucepan over a medium heat and cook until thickened. Stir constantly while you cook it to avoid burning your mixture. Watch your mixture carefully and wait for it to begin boiling slowly. Once it does, cook for two additional minutes, while stirring constantly.

3. Inject a quarter of your glaze into various areas of your ham with a turkey needle before you place it in the oven. Brush another quarter of your glaze over your ham, making sure to coat all sides.

4. Attach eight to 10 chunks of pineapple and eight to 10 cherries to the outside of your ham with toothpicks. If your ham is larger than 6 lbs, increase the number of pineapples and cherries along the outside.

5. Cook your ham at 325 degrees F for one and a half to two and a half hours, or until the internal temperature of your ham is approximately 140 degrees F. When your ham is nearing completion, brush your remaining glaze onto the outside of your ham.

6. Pull the chunks of pineapple and cherries out of your ham before serving it. You can add the cooked pineapple and cherries to each plate as a garnish with your ham.
