Green Salad Ideas

Sprinkle pine nuts on your salad for a finishing touch.

Nutrient-dense green salads are filled with dark leafy greens, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers and thin slices of crisp cucumbers. Rather than selecting iceberg lettuce, try spinach and kale. These are top choices because they are loaded with vitamin K and calcium. Iceberg lettuce has only small amounts of trace vitamins and minerals.

Three-Cheese Salad

This three-cheese salad includes a mix of greens such as romaine, spinach and kale along with tomatoes, cucumbers and avocados. The salad is topped off with three types of grated cheese: cheddar, provolone and mozzarella.

Almond Strawberry Salad

This salad includes a mix of two types of lettuce, such as spinach and romaine, which provide flavor and texture. The lettuce is broken into very small pieces. Other ingredients include almonds and strawberry slices. To mix things up a bit, you can include a combination of slivered and whole almonds in this salad. The salad is then topped off with thin slices of cucumber. If possible, use small flower-shaped cookie cutters to trim the cucumber slices into floral shapes. This is ideal for a party or special occasion.

Ultimate Green Salad

The ultimate green salad includes several types of lettuce and some vegetables that you wouldn't normally use. This green salad is an option for someone who is trying to cleanse their body on a vegetable fast. You will taste a lot of variation in this salad. The salad is made with chopped romaine, arugula, spinach, red tip lettuce and radicchio.

The vegetables added are sliced beats, broccoli, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes and fresh dill. The salad is then topped off with garbanzo beans and pine nuts.
