Instructions
On the Stove
1. Rinse the rice to remove excess starch. Measure it into a bowl and pour cold tap water to cover the rice. Stir the rice in the water using your fingers until the water is cloudy. Pour the water out carefully. Repeat four to five times until the water is fairly clear. Some water will remain in the rice, which is fine.
2. Measure the rice and water into the saucepan. Place the pan on high heat. Bring the rice and water to a boil.
3. Lower the heat to medium. Cook the rice uncovered for several minutes until most of the water is absorbed. Remove from heat.
4. Pour two to three inches of water into a large pot. Bring to a boil over high heat. Place the colander in the pot. The colander should rest in the pot without actually touching the water beneath it.
5. Pour the rice into the colander. Cover the colander with a pot lid or a baking sheet to contain the steam. Steam the rice for 25 to 30 minutes.
