Broil Oysters In The Shell

Broil oysters in their shells for a decadent treat.


Broiled oysters make a delicious and elegantly presented party appetizer. Serve the oysters during receptions, showers, holiday dinner parties and other special events. Top the oysters with a rich butter-base sauce, which will enhance the mollusks' delicate flavor and texture. Be sure to buy only live oysters to avoid food-borne illnesses, and shuck them at home right before broiling them. Serve the broiled oysters in their shells on an elegant tray, accompanied by fresh lemon wedges and cocktail forks.


Instructions


1. Shuck 12 fresh oysters and discard their top shells. Use a sharp knife to loosen the oysters in the bottom shells. Arrange the half-shell oysters on a broiler tray. Preheat the oven's broiler.








2. Create a sauce by melting 3 tablespoons. of butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in 2 tablespoons of fresh-squeezed lemon juice, 3/4 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1/4 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper and 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley.


3. Pour the hot butter sauce evenly over the tops of the oysters. Sprinkle each oyster with 1 teaspoon of grated Parmesan cheese.


4. Place the tray of oysters on an oven rack six inches below the broiler. Broil the oysters for three to five minutes, or until the edges begin to curl.
