Create a Cake Topper

Instructions
1. Determine what type of flower to use, fresh or artificial. Using artificial flowers means you can make the cake topper in advance and simply place it on the cake the day of the wedding. Make sure to have all the items ready; most can be purchased at a craft store.
2. Cut the Styrofoam ball in half, or the size appropriate for the cake topper. Use an 8-inch piece of round cardboard if your cake is 10 inches in diameter. Always make the cake topper slightly smaller. Take apart flower bunches and trim stems to 1 inch or less. Start with a few bunches, and take the rest apart as needed.
3. Add leaves to the round cardboard. Use extra green leaves as the base for the round cardboard. Hot glue the leaves so about half of the leaf is hanging over the edge of the round cardboard. Overlap the leaves so no portion of the round cardboard shows.
4. Place a sufficient amount of hot glue on the round cardboard to hold the Styrofoam. Carefully center the Styrofoam on the round cardboard and hold in place for a few seconds. Check to make sure the Styrofoam is securely attached to the round cardboard and re-glue if necessary.
5. Insert flowers into the Styrofoam, starting at the bottom and working around the Styrofoam. Place the flowers close together to hide the Styrofoam ball. Make sure the flowers are securely in place. Work all the way around the bottom of the Styrofoam until complete. Start layering the flowers and continue building until the entire Styrofoam ball is covered with flowers.
6. Ensure all flowers are secure and the Styrofoam is hidden. Re-position flowers if you do not like the appearance of the cake topper. These changes should be finished before placing the cake topper on the cake. Carefully place the topper on the cake.
