Get Your Bangs To Swoop

Sideswept bangs with long hair have a distinct appeal.

Sweeping bangs, sometimes referred to as swooping bangs, are the rage in the second decade of the 2000s. Bangs in this era are typically cut longer than the short, choppy bangs of the 1950s and 1960s. In many cases, the definition between bangs and the rest of the hair is less distinct. Bangs may be carefully graduated or even asymmetrically cut. Though some prefer bangs combed straight down over or onto the eyebrows, bangs that sweep to one side or the other, especially when backed by a long mane, offer a sexier effect.

Instructions

1. Preheat your flat iron to the temperature that is most effective for your hair type. Choose a low temperature if you have fine hair, and medium or high heat for thick or coarse hair.

2. Comb bangs straight down toward your eyebrows to get a clear idea of where your bangs start and end on either side.

3. Grasp the area to be swept to the side with one hand.

4. Clamp lightly with the flat iron about an inch from the scalp. Pressing lightly, sweep the curling iron to the ends of your hair as you pull the iron toward the side of your face.

5. Smooth the bangs into place with your fingers, adding light-hold spray or mousse if necessary to keep them in place. Comb or brush the rest of your hair to ensure it is smoothed down.
