Make Mississippi Mud Cake In A Dutch Oven

Ever been on a camping trip and had a desire for some dessert? It's hard to enjoy a good dessert when you're camping and the only thing available is a campfire. Well, if you own a dutch oven, Mississippi Mud Cake is one dessert that is easy to prepare and fun to eat! So, break out your utensils, prepare your fire, and get ready to cook.

Instructions

1. Line the inside of your oven with aluminum foil (bottom and sides). Prepare the yellow cake mix batter as directed on the box and pour into the dutch oven.

2. Make the "mud" for your cake in a separate bowl by mixing together the cocoa powder, brown sugar, hot water, vanilla and cinnamon. Make sure that you mix the "mud" together well. Once the "mud" is mixed, pour on top of the cake mix.

3. Place your dutch oven on the fire, making sure that you have plenty of hot coals to sit the oven in and also cover the top--just remember to place the lid on your oven first!

4. Check to see if the cake is done after 60 minutes of baking. If it is not, replace the coals with fresh ones and let bake until finished. Approximately 5 minutes before the cake is finished, add the chocolate chips and crushed pecans to the top.

5. Remove the cake from the fire when it's finished and sprinkle the powdered sugar on top right before serving.
