Things You'll Need
Rice cookers come in many shapes, sizes and prices. But overall, the rice produced by these cookers is close to perfect. Low-tech rice cookers can be fairly inexpensive. High-tech, cookers, some with microprocessor, cost quite a bit more. Most cookers will allow you to cook more than just rice.
Instructions
1. Pour the desired amount of rice into the cooker. Follow the directions either provided by the maker of your rice cooker or those printed on the rice packaging. For example, for some models, to make approximately 3 cups of cooked rice, you would begin with 1 cup of uncooked rice and 2 1/2 cups of water.
2. Add the water. Once all the ingredients are in the rice cooker, press "start" or the buttons required on turn on
3. Steam the rice. When the rice is done, most cookers will either shut themselves off or reset to a lower temperature to keep the rice warm. White rice cooks more quickly than brown rice. I can steam rice in approximately 30 minutes. Brown rice on the other hand can take 60 minutes or more to steam to perfection. So be sure to plan ahead.
