Peel A Pomelo

A pomelo is similar to a grapefruit.

A pomelo is a large citrus fruit that is similar to a grapefruit but sweeter. According to Fruits of Viet Nam, the pomelo comes in pink or yellow varieties and is a popular sight on many Asian dining tables. Like grapefruit, the fleshy connective tissue sections of the pomelo can be bitter. If carefully peeled, the pomelo is a wonderful addition to salads and desserts and makes a nice side dish for grilled fish or chicken.

Instructions

1. Cut the pomelo in half, through the middle. Hold a pomelo half in your hand over a bowl.

2. Slide the knife between the peel and the pomelo fruit and move all the way around with the knife, keeping all the membranes on the peel side.

3. Insert the knife inside a membrane section of the pomelo, carefully carving around the fruit section and leaving the membrane.

4. Use the tip of the knife to pop the fruit section out of the pomelo half, avoiding all the membranes. Repeat for each section.

5. Take the other half of the pomelo and repeat Steps 2 through 4.
