Thicken Potato Bacon Soup

Use potatoes to thicken potato soup.

One of the best ways to thicken a potato bacon soup (or any potato soup) is with the main ingredient. Potatoes are a natural thickening agent and are the best way to thicken your potato bacon soup. The easiest method is to use instant potato flakes, as they cook quickly but make minimal mess. If you prefer to use natural ingredients, grate a potato into the soup to give the same flaked effect. Finally, pureeing small amounts of the soup can work as well.

Instructions

1. Add instant potato flakes to the potato bacon soup to thicken it. Start with ¼ cup of instant potato flakes, allow them to cook and add more until the soup reaches your desired consistency.

2. Grate an extra potato into the soup as an alternative to potato flakes. The grated potato will cook into the soup, adding extra potato flavor and thickening the soup at the same time.

3. Puree part of the soup and mix it back in. If you are using chunks of potatoes in your soup, try scooping out some of the pieces of potato, pureeing them in a blender and mixing back in with the soup. This technique thickens the soup without using additional ingredients.
