Make A Fruit Bowl

The onset of summer makes us think of fruit and cool treats that are good and good for you. There is nothing better than a cold fruit bowl with delicious fruit filling it. Preparing the bowl is the hardest part of the fruit bowl, but in the end it is the flavor that really matters. Your guests will be in awe of your craftsmanship and the time and energy you put forth to create this wonderful treat.

Instructions

1. Draw the outline of a basket on one side of the watermelon with the pencil. Use a watermelon that has one flat side so that can be the bottom of your bowl. Do not carve more than one third of the way through the melon. This is a basket that will hold other fruits.

2. Carve out your basket shape, leaving a handle. The handle is not for carrying, but will look nice with sprigs of mint attached to it. After you have cut the shape of your basket, begin scooping out the watermelon with the melon baller and placing it in a separate bowl. Scoop out all of the red watermelon flesh you can with the baller and then use the spoon to remove the remainder so you only have white rind left.

3. Cut up the other fruit, except for the blueberries and watermelon. You can cut them decoratively or in simple squares. Mix all of the fruit together in a large bowl. Carefully spoon the mixed fruit into the basket, ensuring that the basket has a good mixture of all the fruit. Pile it high in the basket.

4. Skewer a few pieces of fruit with toothpicks and place them around the rim of the basket and around the handle, alternating the colors of the fruit. Weave mint leaves onto toothpicks and place them strategically around the edge, between some of the fruit and along the handle as well.

5. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
