Make Decorative Butter Shapes

Use regular butter sticks for making decorative shapes.

The aroma of warm bread welcomes your family or guests to the dinner table. Instead of the usual block or tub of butter, dress up the meal by supplying butter pats in decorative shapes. The shape can reflect the season, a holiday, or the theme of the party or event. Individual decorative butter pats also help simplify serving, as each diner takes just what he needs, instead of trying to slice off the desired amount from an unwieldy stick of butter.

Instructions

1. Slice a stick of butter into 1-inch pieces. Cover the butter slices with a paper towel, and allow them to soften on the counter for 30 to 40 minutes.

2. Place the softened butter slices on a sheet of wax paper. Lay a second sheet of wax paper on top the butter. Tear the paper so each sheet is approximately 12 inches long for a single butter stick.

3. Roll the butter with a rolling pin. The wax paper prevents the butter from sticking to the rolling pin. Roll until the butter is formed into a sheet approximately 1/4-inch thick.

4. Slide a cutting board under the bottom layer of wax paper. Place it in the refrigerator for 2 hours so the butter hardens and firms up.

5. Remove the butter from the refrigerator. Peel the top sheet of paper from the butter. Cut out decorative shapes with miniature cookie cutters. Store the butter pats in the fridge until you are ready to use them.
