Types Of Jasmine Rice Dishes

Jasmine rice is used in an array of dishes.

Jasmine rice is a long-grain white rice that originated in Thailand. Jasmine rice offers an aromatic scent, distinct flavor and is less sticky in texture than other types of rice. It's used in steamed dishes, fried plates and casseroles and is traditionally implemented in Thai and Chinese cuisine.

Jasmine Fried Rice

Traditional Asian-style fried jasmine rice includes chopped fried eggs, vegetables such as scallions, onions, peas and carrots, and flavorings that include salt, pepper, garlic and ginger. Jasmine fried rice toppings vary, and can include beef, chicken, seafood or tofu. Fried jasmine rice is prepared on the stove top in a skillet coated with vegetable oil. Coating the skillet with vegetable oil prevents the rice from sticking when cooked over high heat and allows the rice to fry. Cooking fried rice requires stirring and mixing the ingredients. Jasmine fried rice take approximately 12 minutes to cook.

Boiled Jasmine Rice

Boiled jasmine rice is prepared in a sauce pan on the stove top at a high temperature. Water and rice are bought to a boil for approximately 10 minutes. The mixture is cooked over low heat for approximately 20 minutes longer in a covered pot. Boiled jasmine rice requires 10 minutes of cooling time and fluffing prior to serving. Boiled jasmine rice provides a healthy meal option, particularly when steamed vegetables such as broccoli or lean meat or fish are added.

Jasmine Rice Casserole

Jasmine rice casserole is made with boiled jasmine rice and other ingredients that are baked in a casserole pan. Jasmine rice is used in dishes such as chicken devon, made with grated cheese, broccoli, lemon juice, sour cream, chicken and cream of mushroom soup. Jasmine rice casserole ingredients may need some stove top cooking prior to baking. Ingredients are layered in a greased casserole pan and baked for approximately 20 minutes. The contents are poured over boiled jasmine rice prior to serving.
