Replicate an angel from your holiday ornament box for your next religious-themed party.
Whether celebrating a baby's christening, baptism or a heavenly-themed celebration or church event, you can replicate a praying angel in edible materials to top a cake or for use on a buffet table for a religious event. Forming an angel from fondant can be challenging for some and may require numerous attempts, but with a trip to a craft store, you will have all the materials you need to try again.
Instructions
1. Sprinkle confectioner's sugar onto your work surface and roll a 2-inch ball of white fondant to a 1/8-inch thickness. Draw a four-toed footprint onto a 2 1/2-inch long by 1-inch wide piece of paper. Place the paper over half of the fondant and cut it out with a clean, unused craft knife. Turn the stencil over and cut another foot out with the craft knife as a mirror image. These two footprints are angel wings.
2. Allow the fondant to dry and harden a bit so that it keeps its shape. Brush silver edible luster dust over the wings using a clean, unused paintbrush.
3. Roll flesh-colored fondant into a 1-inch round ball. Press and move a clean needle over the fondant ball to create an upward-facing semicircle smile and two small downward-facing closed eyelids.
4. Roll a ball of white fondant into a rounded cone shape and press the 2-inch-wide large end of the cone onto your sugar-sprinkled work surface for the angel's gown bottom. Make two 1/4-inch flesh-colored balls and press the gown down on top of the edge of the balls, next to each other, to appear as angel feet coming from underneath the gown.
5. Press a toothpick into the thin end of the cone gown as a guiding hole and remove it. Push a toothpick into the bottom of the flesh-colored head ball and press the remaining toothpick section down into the cone gown guide hole.
6. Roll two small balls of white fondant into 1-inch-long and 1/2-inch-thick cones as the gown sleeves and press your pinky finger into each wide end.
7. Flatten two 1/4-inch balls of flesh-colored fondant and create a teardrop point into one side. Use the needle and press down three times to create fingers. Brush fondant glue in the sleeve holes as glue and insert the teardrop point into the pinky-sized hole in the end of each sleeve. Brush one sleeve side with and press against the body cone.
8. Roll two 2-inch-long brown snake-like strips of fondant and twist them around each other. Place them over the angel's head as hair and adhere with fondant glue. Repeat to cover the entire head. Adhere the footprint wings to the back of the angels' body cone using fondant glue and allow them to dry.
9. Create a silver pipe cleaner halo by twisting the ends of a 3-inch piece of silver pipe cleaner around itself into a ring and wrapping silver wire around the seam area. Twist the silver wire to make it more durable and press it into the head of the angel.
