Gluten Free Menus In The Boston Area

More and more restuarants are offering gluten-free menu options.

Dining out can be a stress-free way to spend an evening: all the cooking is taken care of, nothing must be cleaned up afterward (at least not by the guests), and patrons are free to kick back and catch up with friends and family while enjoying a meal. But for those with gluten allergies, dining out can be difficult, as many traditional dishes include gluten. However, there are a growing number of gluten-free menu options and restaurants available, including many in the Boston area.

Fire + Ice

Fire + Ice Grill and Bar features a unique dining experience similar to that offered by Japanese steakhouses. Guests sit facing the chefs as they flame-grill the various menu offerings. The fire-themed cooking takes place in the "fire" half of the establishment. Over at the "ice" portion, a specialty bar serves up icy cocktails, imaginative drinks, and Fire + Ice exclusives, including a beer created by Samuel Adams specifically for Fire + Ice restaurants. Because guests can participate in the preparation of food, anybody with an allergy or taste preferences can easily inform cooks to have a specialty meal prepared right in front of them, a feature particularly helpful for those with gluten allergies.

Addis Red Sea

Offering authentic Ethiopian fare, Addis Red Sea specializes in decor and cuisine that "actually reflects true Ethiopian culture." Guests are invited to sit on floor cushions around a low table as entrees are brought out and shared by all. Typically, guests eat without silverware, scooping food onto pieces of injera, a traditional Ethiopian, sponge-like bread. This bread, used while eating most dishes, is made from a gluten-free grain, which makes Addis Red Sea a good place for someone with a gluten allergy to dine.

The Sole Proprietor

Many cities boast a specific kind of food as its specialty. In Boston, this is arguably seafood, and this is the exactly what The Sold Proprietor offers guests in an elegant-but-relaxing atmosphere complete with sea-themed decor. Located in the Boston suburb of Worcester, The Sole Proprietor has earned a number of four-star reviews and was even rated one of the top-ten seafood restaurants in the nation. What's more, the gluten-free portion of the menu includes every course and is nearly as long as the original, with 12 gluten-free entrees and nine desserts.

111 Chophouse

Owned by the same restaurant group as The Sole Proprietor, One Eleven Chophouse specializes in luxurious land-lover fare. Specifically, the restaurant seeks to recreate the atmosphere of a Chicago steak-house for New England guests. Specializing in choice-grade steaks and pork chops, the gluten free menu also features beef carpaccio, a crab and avocado cocktail (an appetizer with cocktail sauce, not an alcoholic beverage) and raspberry creme brulee for dessert.
