A coozie is a sleeve that wraps around a cold or hot beverage. It helps maintain the temperature of the drink. Most coozies are composed of a manmade material and are about a quarter-inch thick. Often printed with sports team logos, beer manufacturer names or quirky sayings, coozies are most widely used during the hot summer months for beer or soda cans and bottles.

Coozies are also known by many other names, including koozies, cozies and huggers. The first manufacturer, RCC Koozie, spelled coozie with a "k," so most people spell it that way.
Origins
The coozie was first manufactured by the RCC Koozie Company in 1982. This San Antonio business first manufactured styrofoam sleeves that were stiff, not flexible like the current coozie.
Material of Manufacture
The more modern, soft and flexible coozies are often manufactured out of neoprene. This is the same material used to make skin diver's suits. Coozies can also be made of polyurethane and other manmade plastics. Most often, the coozie is cut to fit a 12-ounce can or bottle snugly.
Why Use a Coozie?
Coozies are designed to keep a cold beverage cold during the hot months of the summer. When your hand holds a cold beverage, it makes the bottle sweat and it may warm your cold beverage. In cooler months, if you have a hot chocolate, coffee or tea, you may need protection from the hot container and want to keep your beverage warm.
Promotional Uses
Coozies are often used to promote beverage companies or sports teams. Companies may have their logos screen-printed on the outside part of the sleeve. These coozies come in various colors and some even form around the neck of a glass beer bottle and have a zipper for a more form-fitting fit.
