Use Chestnut Nut Meat In Baking

Use roasted chestnut meat in a Thanksgiving stuffing.

If chestnuts roasting on an open fire bring you delight, other dishes that incorporate roasted chestnut meat may be welcome to your palette. Chestnuts can be eaten year-round thanks to the availability of imports. However, you most likely will use chestnuts in seasonal meals around holidays such as Thanksgiving and during the winter months.

Instructions

1. Mix roasted chestnut meat into a stuffing for Thanksgiving. The Food Networks' Tyler Florence recommends adding 1 lb. of roasted chestnuts to a sausage dressing that you can make and bake in about an hour. Alternatively, simply add the chestnuts to your own dressing recipe. Bake for about 35 minutes at 375 degrees F.

2. Make a chestnut soup. Eileen's Country Kitchen offers a recipe for a chestnut vegetable soup. You can add roasted chestnut meat to any vegetable soup. Simply make your vegetable soup with chicken broth as you normally would, add the chestnuts and bring the pot to a boil until tender.

3. Bake a tart with chestnut meat. An easy recipe from Eileen's Country Kitchen calls for whisking together the yolks of 5 separated eggs and a 1-pound can of sweetened chestnut cream, stirring in 4 tbsp. of unsalted butter and 2 tbsp. of your favorite brandy, and folding in the stiff egg whites. Pour the decadent mixture into a pie shell, and bake your tart for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees F.
