Cooking Instructions For White Rice

White rice is a cooking staple used in many different types of recipes.


Rice is available in several varieties, such as wild, brown, jasmine, pearl and long and short grain white rice. White rice is a versatile cooking ingredient in many types of recipes, from desserts to main dishes. White rice stars in many different ethnic cuisines, such as Mexican, Chinese and Japanese. Preparing white rice is simple and requires the use of only a few other ingredients. Be careful not to overcook rice as it will become gummy and sticky. When measuring ingredients, always use two parts water to one part rice.


Instructions


1. Measure 2 cups of water using a measuring cup. Pour the water into a saucepan.


2. Turn the stove on high and bring the water to a boil.








3. Measure 1 cup of rice using the measuring cup. Add the rice, along with 1/2 tsp. of salt and 1 tbsp. of butter, to the boiling water. Stir the rice mixture with a spoon.








4. Cover the pan with a lid and bring the water back to a boil.


5. Turn the stove down to low to simmer the rice immediately after the mixture reaches a boil.


6. Set the stove timer for 15 minutes. Lift the lid and check the rice four minutes before the timer is set to go off. Stir the rice once and replace the lid. Add five minutes to the timer if the rice hasn't fully absorbed all of the water after 15 minutes.
