A chocolate fondue is fun to share with friends or to help set a romantic mood.
You don't need to be an experienced baker to make a dessert that will impress your guests. Chocolate fondue is easy to make and can be prepared ahead of time; you'll be free to entertain your guests during your next dinner party instead of hiding in the kitchen. Chocolate fondue can be made in many variations to match your guests' tastes and avoid any food allergies.
Instructions
1. Choose fruits you can easily cut into cubes or use whole. Berries, bananas, pineapples, apples, oranges, peaches and honeydew melon are all good choices. Wash, peel and cut the fruit into bite-sized cubes. Display the fruit on a tray you can store in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve the fondue.
2. Chop the chocolate into coarse chunks. Use a single type of chocolate such as semi-sweet or combine various types to create a surprising mix. If you are feeling bold, you can use white chocolate.
3. Using low heat, melt the chocolate and cream together in a saucepan until it has a smooth texture. Stir frequently so you don't burn the mixture. If you are using white chocolate, use lighter cream since the chocolate is already sweet and creamy. You can also replace the cream with milk to help smooth out the mixture.
4. Flavor your chocolate fondue by adding a liqueur such as cherry, coffee, orange or berry. Add in half a teaspoon of vanilla extract if you don't have a liqueur.
5. Transfer the melted chocolate to the bowl of your fondue set. Place the set in the middle of the table so all your guests can reach it easily. Supply fondue sticks so your guests can dip their fruits into the warm, melted chocolate.
6. Bring out your platter of fruits, some nuts and marshmallows, and let your guests enjoy their fondue.
7. Stir the melted chocolate once in a while to avoid scorching and burning the chocolate.
