Kids Holiday Party Fruit Salad

Marshmallows come in a variety of sizes; use miniature marshmallows in the fruit salad.

One versatile, semi-healthy food to serve at your kid's next holiday party is fruit salad. Because it's for a holiday, the fruit salad should contain more than diced strawberries, peaches and kiwi fruit; it needs to sit on the edge of decadence. You could add white chocolate chips or candied nuts to the fruit salad for a slightly different take on tradition but keep in mind that there are many recipes for fruit salad; the trick is to find one that kids will enjoy. That means avoiding foods which aren't traditionally kid-friendly such as sour cream and grapefruit.

Instructions

Traditional

1. Wash and peel one apple and one pear. Dice the fruit into small pieces and put them in a medium sized bowl.

2. Peel an orange. Cut the orange into segments by pressing the knife into its flesh between the white membranes separating the flesh. Slice each orange segment in half. Put the orange segments into a bowl with the apple and pear.

3. Cut 1/4 cup pitted maraschino cherries in half and add them to the fruits in the bowl.

4. Open an 8 oz. can of pineapple tidbits, drain its juice and pour the pineapple pieces into the bowl with the other fruit.

5. Add 1 cup whipped topping and 1/2 cup miniature marshmallows to the fruit. Stir.

6. Scoop the fruit salad into plastic champagne glasses and sprinkle the top of the mixture with sprinkles that match the party theme.
