Make Chocolate Pizza

This "pizza" is actually a giant chocolate confection, with a base of good bittersweet chocolate and layers of milk and white chocolate, topped with colorful small candies. Chocolate pizza--prepared in a disposable tin and beautifully wrapped--makes a great food gift. It's also a fun addition to dessert tables and potluck parties.

Instructions

Make a Chocolate Pizza

1. Lightly butter the inside of a 12-inch pizza pan. Break up a pound of good-quality bittersweet chocolate into small pieces. Place in a glass bowl. Add two ounces of chopped milk chocolate to the bowl as well. Microwave, uncovered, on 50-percent power for 2 minutes. Carefully remove bowl from microwave and stir until chocolate is uniformly melted. If necessary, return chocolate to the microwave for 10 second bursts of heat at 50-percent power. Do not overheat chocolate.

2. Pour melted chocolate into the buttered pizza pan. Tilt and turn pan unil bottom is evenly covered with melted chocolate. Set aside to cool for 15 minutes. Chop the remaining milk chocolate and place in the glass bowl with heavy cream. Microwave at 50-percent for 1 minute. Stir and return to the microwave for another minute at 50-percent power. Stir until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.

3. Dot the top of the chocolate in the pizza pan with marshmallows. Sprinkle almonds evenly over the top. Pour melted milk chocolate into a resealable plastic bag. Turn the bag so all the chocolate settles in one corner of the bottom. Holding the bag next to the pizza, snip the corner of the bag. Quickly move the bag over the pizza. Lightly squeeze the bag and move evenly, back and forth over the pizza, to make a chocolate zig-zag pattern over the marshmallows, almonds and bittersweet chocolate. Set pizza aside to cool completely.

4. Coarsely grate or shave white chocolate. Sprinkle over the pizza. Top evenly with M&Ms, Reese's Pieces or small gumdrops. To serve, cut pizza into 8 to 10 wedges with a sharp knife.
