Homemade fruit leather is a healthy, fun snack for kids and taste much better than store-bought. Methods of dehydration with an electric food dehydrator may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer, but a few basic steps can be followed no matter the brad to create your own
Instructions
1. Wash, core and peel 2 pounds of apples. Tart green apples such as Granny Smith work the best.
2. Cook the apples on the stove in simmering water until they are softened.
3. Put a 1/4 cup of lemon in a blender or food processor and gradually add apples. Set the blender to purée to create a thick applesauce. Add sugar, cinnamon and honey to taste.
4. Pour the purée onto the fruit roll drying sheets. Spread it into a thin, even layer. It should not be more than 3/8-inch thick.
5. Dehydrate at 140 degrees for approximately five to seven hours (double check your dehydrator's manual for further specification regarding making fruit leather). Dry until the purée becomes leathery and is able to peel up easily with out sticking.
6. Take the leather out of the drying sheets before it cools down.
7. Store fruit leather between sheets of plastic wrap after it cools. Keep the apple
