Presentation For A Shrimp Cocktail

A martini glass makes an elegant presentation vessel for shrimp cocktail.

The basis for shrimp cocktail is chilled cooked shrimp served with a tangy sauce. Options include mixing the shrimp into the sauce or presenting the prawns separately for dipping. Serving methods can vary, whether the occasion is informal or elegant dining.

Martini Glass

Fill a martini glass about two-thirds full of a cocktail sauce made of catsup, horseradish and lemon juice seasoned with salt, sugar, pepper, Tabasco, Worcestershire and garlic. Arrange the tail-on cocktail-sized shrimp around the glass rim, tails hanging down outside the glass. Garnished with a lemon slice and piece of parsley, this presentation is suitable for a gourmet appetizer.

Endive Shrimp Cocktail Boats

Arrange the shrimp cocktail in Begian endive leaves for an elegant presentation that is neat and which guests can eat out of their hands. Small cooked shrimp, peeled and deveined, are combined in a sauce of mayonnaise, sour cream, chopped fresh dill, Dijon mustard, salt and pepper. Refrigerate overnight for the best flavor. Stuff endive leaves with the mixture.

Mexican Shrimp Cocktail

This presentation can serve a crowd. Combine 2 lbs. of cooked, deveined and peeled shrimp with garlic, chopped red onion, cilantro, tomato and clam juice cocktail, ketchup, lime juice, hot pepper sauce, horseradish, salt and a chopped avocado. Stir all the ingredients together, and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours to blend flavors. Serve in a large communal bowl or small individual bowls.
