Ideas For A Bereavement Dinner

Losing a loved one can be a very difficult time.

Grieving is the best way for someone who has lost a loved one to heal. It takes time, family and patience. Often friends, family or church members may offer to bring the family or individual a bereavement dinner. Prepare meals that can be reheated when they are ready to eat in order to make it easier on them.Serving the family in their time of need is a wonderful way to let them know you are thinking of them.

Lasagna

Lasagna is a filling meal for the bereaving family.

Good, hearty meals will help a family keep up their energy and strength and also give them enough food to feed their family and any guests they may have staying with them from out of town. Lasagna can be made from scratch or purchased from the store and makes providing a meal for the bereaving family extremely easy. Lasagna reheats well if it is frozen and can be refrigerated until the family is ready to bake it. Provide garlic bread for the meal, which once again can be made from scratch with garlic butter or purchased in the freezer section of your grocery store. A salad may also be a welcome addition to the meal.

Taco Soup

Taco soup is a comfort food all year round.

Taco soup is a simple meal consisting of meat, tomato soup, corn, beans and any other vegetables you would like to add. Provide the family with a tub of sour cream, shredded cheese and tortilla chips to complete the meal. Freeze one half of the soup for them to have at a later time, and leave the other half for the family to heat up as soon as they are hungry. This is a very simple meal that requires very little work from the bereaving family. Filling soups are great comfort foods during a family's hard time.

Meatloaf

Meatloaf is a filling meal.

Making a meatloaf may take a little extra time, but it will be well worth it when completed and delivered to the bereaving family. A double recipe will give the family plenty to eat and the option to freeze one pan of meatloaf while heating the other for that night's dinner. A pre-made salad and dinner rolls are the perfect addition to this filling meal. Meatloaf is a great meal fresh or reheated for meatloaf sandwiches at lunch the next day. Another option that will benefit your family as well, is to make an extra meatloaf for your own family at the same time. After visiting with the family, you will welcome the ease of dinner for yourself.
