Make A Purple Margarita

The margarita is a tequila-based drink that makes for a potent cocktail in most cases. Tweak the recipe for a sweeter version of the classic margarita. Adding raspberry liqueur and a dark-colored juice takes a bit of the edge off of the alcohol taste. The red-purple additions make the margarita look purple as well. This recipe turns out four bright, colorful purple margaritas.

Instructions

1. Pour equal parts tequila, sweet and sour mix and raspberry liqueur into a pitcher. Use 1/4 cup (2 oz.) of each to render four margaritas on the rocks.

2. Cut a lime in half and juice each half into the pitcher. Squeeze the lime with one hand and use your other hand as a sieve to avoid getting seeds into your drink.

3. Add 1/8 to 1/4 cup (1 to 2 oz.) of a dark juice, according to taste. Cranberry is traditionally chosen for purple margaritas, but you can also select an unsweetened grape juice, a cranberry-grape mixture or pomegranate juice. The dark hue of the juice is what makes the margarita purple in color.

4. Stir the purple margarita well to make sure all ingredients are evenly distributed.

5. Fill four margarita classes with ice cubes. Pour the purple margaritas and serve while cold. You may choose to adorn the rims of the glasses with salt as tradition calls for, but this version of the cocktail may be a little too sweet for salt.
