Store A Cheese Wheel With A Wax Rind

Store a Cheese Wheel With a Wax Rind

A wax rind is the hard edge that surrounds a wheel of cheese and protects the cheese from breaking or bruising. Although a wax rind is not toxic, its hard texture may make it unappealing to eat. If you purchase a wheel of cheese with an attached wax rind, you must store it correctly to protect the texture of the cheese, as well as prevent it from drying out or molding. It must be wrapped tightly to keep out any air.

Instructions

1. Cover the entire cheese wheel with plastic wrap. Secure the plastic tightly, making sure no air is trapped between the cheese and the plastic wrap.

2. Transfer the wrapped cheese wheel into your refrigerator. Remove and discard the plastic wrap when you want to eat the cheese.

3. Slice off your preferred amount of cheese from the wheel. Leave the wax rind completely intact.

4. Cover the remaining cheese wheel tightly with fresh plastic wrap. Store it chilled in the refrigerator for up to 1 month or until the cheese starts to discolor or mold.
