Organize Wine Tasting Events

Give your guests a good wine tasting experience.

A wine tasting event can be a pleasurable gathering for friends or families. Whether you're organizing a simple, intimate gathering or an all-out, formal affair complete with media coverage, careful planning is essential in order to execute a successful event. Provide invitations and the necessary items to make sure your guests are having a great time during the wine tasting. Have a variety of wines ready so your guests can have a good sampling range.

Instructions

1. Determine what type of event you are holding. Plan a dinner, picnic or cocktail party after the initial wine tasting, so guests can sample the various wines with a range of food items. This will give them a more extensive experience of how different wines taste when paired with different kinds of dishes.

2. Get the help of professional event planners if you're organizing a big wine tasting event. Your friends can lend you enough helping hands if you're having a simple, friends-only affair. Plan everything from the location and decoration, dinner menu and wine menu, to the invitation and other event essentials.

3. Prepare the things you will need for the wine tasting event: wine glasses, wine bottle openers and of course, the different wines for sampling. Provide your guests with a tasting kit, if possible, to facilitate a less complicated wine tasting experience. The kit should include a tasting guide featuring the different wine characteristics, an aroma chart to guide guests in identifying the various scents produced by wine, and extra notepads and pens for their personal notes.

4. Buy the wines for sampling, and then cool or chill them to have them ready for the event. During the affair, make sure each guest has a different glass for each type of wine. Serve the different types of wines at the same time so the guests can compare them as they sample each one.

5. Guide your guests during the tasting by telling them to progress from the lightest to the fullest wine. Traditional tasting dictates that you pour approximately 1 1/2 ounces of wine in each glass. Show guests also properly swirl the wine in their glasses, to test for quality.
