Toast Tortillas In The Oven

Make toasted tortilla chips in the oven.

Toasted tortilla chips take only a few minutes in the oven and can be customized with dried spices or seasoned salt for extra flavor. Tortillas that have been toasted in the oven have less fat and fewer calories than fried tortilla chips, but they retain the crisp texture of store-bought chips. Experiment with different types of tortilla to make an original snack or soup accompaniment.

Instructions

1. Turn the oven on to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease with olive oil.

2. Cut the tortillas into eighths. Use whole wheat or chili and lime tortillas to make flavored tortilla chips.

3. Arrange the tortilla wedges in a single layer on the baking sheet.

4. Drizzle olive oil over the tortilla wedges and sprinkle with salt and dried spices, such as cumin or paprika, if desired.

5. Toast the tortillas in the oven until crisp, approximately 10 minutes.

6. Remove the tortilla chips from the oven and serve warm or allow to cool. The Washington Post recommends cooling toasted tortillas before you store them to preserve crispness.
