Store Jasmine Rice

Store Jasmine Rice

Often used in Thai cooking, jasmine rice adds a fragrant aroma of flowers to your dish as it cooks. This aroma has few parallels in the kitchen. While not as readily available as other varieties of long grain rice, you can find jasmine rice in many well stocked supermarkets or gourmet and specialty stores. Properly storing jasmine rice ensures that your well gotten grains last indefinitely. Long grain rices, such as jasmine, have such a longevity that archaeologists have uncovered ready to cook grains at excavation sites. This grain storage method also adapts well to all other forms of rice and grains.

Instructions

1. Fill an airtight container with jasmine rice.

2. Place the container in the back of a pantry or in a cool, dry cellar.

3. Store white jasmine rice indefinitely until cooking. Keep brown jasmine rice refrigerated for three to six months in an airtight container to prevent the oils in the bran from becoming rancid.

4. Cook jasmine rice by combining 3 cups of water for each 1 cup of raw jasmine rice. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cover. Allow the rice to cook for 20 to 25 minutes or until the rice has absorbed the water.

5. Place any leftover rice into an airtight container and refrigerate for up to two days.
