Make Roses For Cakes

Decorating your homemade cake gives them personality regardless of the occasion at which they are served. It also saves money from ordering decorative cakes. Making your own floral decorations such as roses gives you the ability to add enchanting pieces of romantic ornament to a wedding cake, anniversary or another sentimental cake of romantic value. Making roses takes few materials and not much time.

Instructions

1. Cut a chunk of fondant measuring about 3 inches by 3 inches and place it on a sheet of waxed paper. Fondant can be found in specialty bakeries and supply vendors. You can also make fondant from scratch a couple hours ahead of time, prior to making the rose florets.

2. Roll out the piece of fondant until it is nearly paper thin. This should create a segment of fondant measuring roughly 8 inches by 8 inches.

3. Cut three rectangular strips from the flattened fondant measuring about 1/2 inch wide by 8 inches long.

4. Roll one of the fondant strips tightly in a cone-like shape. To do this, roll it tighter at one end while the other end of the roll fans out a little. Pinch the narrow end together a little to help it keep its shape.

5. Wrap another fondant strip around the rolled one you just created. Repeat with the final strip, wrapping it around the second layer in the opposite direction from which it wrapped around the first layer. Repeat this step to make more roses for your cakes.
