Uses For Sour Cream

Use sour cream as a topping for your baked potato.

Sour cream is a dairy product used in kitchens across the world to add a tasty, sour flavor to breakfast, lunch, dinner, breakfast and even snacks. It's commonly used in dishes served at parties for football games and other casual events. Available in low-fat varieties, sour cream can be a part of a healthy diet if used in moderation.

As a Topping

Condiments work to give foods extra flavors that tantalize diners' taste buds. Sour cream is commonly used as a topping for a variety of foods. For breakfast, use sour cream as a topping for eggs, coffee cake or fresh baked bread. For lunch and dinner, sour cream can be used to top everything from tacos to baked potatoes. When used as a topping for baked potatoes, sour cream is typically combined with chives.

Make a Dip

Whether you're preparing a menu for a baby shower or a football game, you can use sour cream as an ingredient for a variety of dips. Thoroughly mix sour cream with onion soup mix and chives to create a dip perfect for dipping potato chips or tortilla chips. How about a hot spinach and artichoke dip, which uses sour cream as an ingredient? The dip combines a 10-ounce package of frozen chopped spinach, 2 cans of artichoke hearts, ½ cup of mayonnaise, ½ cup of sour cream, 1 cup of freshly grated Parmesan cheese and 1 cup of grated pepper jack cheese. Thaw the spinach, combine all ingredients; add the cheese on top. This dip bakes for 30 minutes on 350 degrees.

Or simply empty a container of sour cream into a bowl and arrange it on a platter with a variety of fruits, vegetables and crackers for your guests' dipping pleasures.

Whip Up A Salad

Give your summer dishes a varied flavor by adding sour cream to your recipes. Offer sour cream, mixed with crumbles of blue cheese, as a dressing for chef salads. Give potato salad a baked potato flavor with the addition of sour cream. You can also add sour cream to cucumber salad, blend it with dill to make tuna salad or add it to chicken salad.

Add It To Soup

If you're looking for a warm meal for a cold winter's night, put soup with a little sour cream on the menu. Add a dollop of sour cream to soups such as potato, vegetable and chicken enchilada varieties.
