Get Crunchy Canned Pickles

Crisp pickles even look delicious.

Crispy, crunchy pickles are a style of pickle that will add a distinct texture to your plate. They also add color to your meals. Crisp pickles have a brighter color than soft pickles. An ice water bath helps the cucumbers maintain the bright green color. This style of pickle can be made at home using a couple tricks of the pickle-making trade. There are also seasonings that will help make your pickles stay crunchy and add further color. You can easily make your own specialty of crispy pickles.

Instructions

1. Cut your cucumbers with a paring knife into spears, or leave cucumbers whole if they are not too large.

2. Put cucumbers into a large pan full of water and ice. Put in refrigerator to chill them through and through about four hours. This helps them to stay crisp.

3. Place the garlic, dill and oak leaves in the bottom of the glass jar. Take the cucumbers out of the ice water and place into the jar on the spices and leaves. Pack them tightly so they won't be able to float.

4. Mix the whey and salt with 2 cups of water. Get the salt and whey to dissolve. Then pour over the packed cucumbers. Pour extra water on top to 1 inch below the top. Put the lid on the jar tightly.

5. Place the jar of pickles in a warm spot in the kitchen for about three days. Taste them whenever you wish. After three days, place the jar in the refrigerator.
