Many people are under the impression that to be a vegetarian, on has to commit themselves to a lifetime of bland tasting and boring foods. Noting could be farther from the truth. 1. Make sure that you get enough protein from the foods that you choose. Remember, your replacing meat which is loaded with proteins. Spinach is an excellent source along with beans, eggs and cheese. Eating a balance of these will give you all of the protein that you need and offer some great tastes to your dishes.


2. Don't be fooled into thinking that it is all low fat. Many make the assumption that all vegetarian food is low in calories and will help you to loose weight. while this is true for some dishes, there are some vegetarian foods that can clog arteries with the best of them. Anything that is high in dairy is likely going to have a high fat content. Remember, you need to balance your diet with vegetarian food just as you would if you ate meat.


3. Cook in olive oil. Any dishes that require they be cooked in oil should be cooked in olive oil. Olive oil is light and helps to release the flavor of the food. It is also lower in fat and calories when compared to may other oils.


4. Study spices and what they can do. Any vegetarian dish can be made to stand out when spices are added. Taking soya and adding soy sauce gives it a whole new dimension. Adding cumin, Paprika and curry can make an ordinary dish into an extra-ordinary one. Don't go mad. Just try a little here and there.


5. Consider using meat substitutes. Many are reluctant to do this because they fear what they may taste like. There are actually some meat substitutes that are excellent. they are good for you and add that extra touch of texture and flavor to you vegetarian dishes.
