Make Cheap Vodka Taste Better

So you've got the proverbial "champagne tastes on a beer budget," and you're stuck buying cheap vodka. It goes down rough, and tastes like. . .well, cheap vodka. Don't fret; you have options.

One way to improve the flavor of your brew is to run it through a Brita filter several times. It's not guaranteed, but some swear by it. Another option is flavored vodkas and infusions, which are all the rage and easy to make.

Instructions

Skittles Vodka

1. Separate the Skittles by color. You can mix them, but you might get some odd flavors. If you want to try different combinations, all you'll need are more bottles and more vodka.

2. Put about 3/4 cup of Skittles in each water bottle. Fill the bottles with vodka, leaving some air space at the top.

3. Cap the bottles and shake them well. Store in a cool dark place.

4. Shake the bottles daily until all the Skittles have dissolved. This will take several days to a week.

5. Strain the vodka through the coffee filters to remove the sediment that has formed. Enjoy!

Infused Vodkas

6. Peel, seed and cut the fruit into small pieces. Lemons, limes, oranges, peaches, pomegranate, and berries are all good choices. You can also flavor vodka with ginger, cloves, cinnamon, almonds and even bacon!

7. Fill the jar with fruit. Do not pack it in, just fill it lightly.

8. Pour vodka over the fruit to fill the jar. Cap the jar.

9. Set the jar in a cool, dark place.

10. Let it sit for a week or two, and then sample. If you want more fruit taste, let the jar sit longer.

11. Strain through coffee filters to remove the fruit.

12. Pour into bottles and cap.
