Shape A Round Challah Bread Loaf

Round loaves of challah bread, usually served for the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, symbolize God's crown and serve as a reminder of the relationship between the Jewish people and God. Follow these steps to shape a round challah bread loaf.


Instructions


1. Sprinkle a light coating of flour onto a flat work surface in your kitchen. This helps prevent the challah bread dough from sticking to the work surface.


2. Place the challah bread dough on the floured surface.


3. Push out any air that may remain in the challah bread dough. Do this by lightly pressing the dough with your hands.


4. Use a rolling pin to roll out the challah bread dough about ? inch thick.


5. Roll the challah bread dough lengthwise into a long rope of dough. Be sure to roll the challah bread dough tightly and pinch the ends of the dough rope closed with your fingers.








6. Use your hands to roll or spin the ends of the challah dough rope thinner than the middle of the rope, which needs to be thicker.


7. Form a tight spiral of challah bread dough by winding it into a spiral shape that's slightly higher in the center. Start with one of the thin ends of the dough rope and continue to roll the dough until a spiral forms. Pinch the pieces of dough together at the end of the spiral.
