Remove A Pressure Canner From Electric Elements

Protect yourself against injury by following safe practices while canning.

Experienced canners are aware of the dangers regarding the improper use of a pressure canner. Those dangers can be minimized by following safe practices and the instructions included with your canner. Avoid burns, explosions, spills and messes by treating your pressure canner with care and requesting help when needed. Moving a canner seems like a simple task, but it can quickly take a turn for the worse if you handle the canner improperly.

Instructions

1. Turn off the heating element that your canner is sitting on.

2. Put on a pair of oven mitts and protective eyewear to prevent injury to your hands and eyes.

3. Remove the weighted pressure gauge from the steam-release valve. The steam released will be extremely hot, so do not lean over the canner while performing this task.

4. Grasp the canner handles with both hands. Move the canner to a cool heating element furthest away from the element you used. Do this after all of the steam has been released from the canner.
