Uses For Ramen Noodle Seasonings

Dry ramen noodles come with a seasoning packet.

College students and others on strict budgets are probably familiar with instant ramen, a Japanese product consisting of a brick of uncooked wheat noodles and a foil packet of seasoning. The seasoning is added to the water used to cook the noodles. The seasoning typically consists of salt, soy sauce powder, sugar, garlic powder and perhaps powdered ginger and green onion. Ramen seasoning packets are a versatile way to spice up a variety of dishes.

Pasta and Rice

Use ramen packets to flavor rice.

Flavor pasta and rice dishes with ramen seasoning. Add the seasoning to the cooking water. A general rule of thumb is to use one packet for every two cups of water, treating it as the equivalent of one packet of dry instant bouillon.

Salad Dressing and Gravy

Season a homemade vinaigrette with a ramen packet.

Enhance homemade vinaigrette dressings with ramen seasoning. For example, spice up an Asian-inspired chicken salad with pineapple-ramen dressing. Combine two tablespoons of pineapple juice, 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and of soy sauce, a tablespoon of honey, and 1/2 teaspoon of ramen seasoning.

Use a ramen packet in beef or chicken gravy.

Meat and Poultry

Season meatloaf and other meats with ramen seasoning.

Meatloaf or meatballs can be flavored with ramen seasoning. Use one packet of seasoning per pound of ground beef. Make sure to omit salt and other seasonings, since the ramen packet is quite salty already. Ramen seasoning also makes an interesting rub for beef or poultry; just substitute the salt and other seasonings in your favorite rub recipe for one packet.

Cream Cheese and Dips

Flavor plain cream cheese with a ramen packet.

Dips vegetables or crackers into flavored cream cheese Simply blend one 8 ounce package of cream cheese with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and one packet of ramen seasoning. Use reduced sodium soy sauce if possible.

Coatings

Dust oven-baked potatoes with ramen seasoning.

Ramen seasoning adds an Asian flavor to oven-baked potatoes. For the oven-fried potatoes, place one ramen packet and cubed potatoes in a ziploc bag; shake to coat the potatoes, then bake them as directed by your favorite recipe. Add ramen seasoning to any bread crumb mixture that you use to coat fish or chicken for frying or baking.
