Barbecue Brisket

Meat cut from the chest of an animal is called brisket. Beef is the most common type of brisket, but venison or deer meat is also used. Barbecued brisket can be cooked on a grill or in the oven and is a welcome addition to a food-friendly function.

Instructions

Barbecue on the Grill

1. Trim the fat off the brisket.

2. Rub or brush both sides of the brisket with barbecue sauce. Sprinkle the spices over the brisket.

3. Light and heat the grill to 225 degrees.

4. Cook the brisket for 30 minutes and then turn the meat over. Brush or rub more barbecue sauce and spices on the brisket.

5. Cook for another 30 minutes.

6. Cut into the meat. Check to see if it is cooked all the way through. If there is too much red or raw meat in the center, continue to cook the brisket.

Cook in the Oven

7. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.

8. Mix the barbecue sauce, spices and beef consomme without adding water to the consomme.

9. Place the brisket into the oven cooking bag. These bags are available at any grocery store.

10. Pour the barbecue sauce, spices and consomme into the bag. Close the bag with the twist tie provided.

11. Put the bag in a 13-by-9 inch baking pan.

12. Cook the brisket for 3 hours at 300 degrees.

13. Poke the meat with a knife and look into the center of the brisket. If the meat in the center is still raw, continue cooking until cooked through. Slice the brisket and serve with extra barbecue sauce.
