Make A Simple Marinade For Meat

A good marinade is important in making a great steak.

An essential part of cooking meat is having a great marinade at the ready. Marinades add flavor and depth to many types of meats, whether chicken, steak or fish. The dozens of ready-made marinades at the grocery store are rather expensive and contain processed ingredients such as high fructose corn syrup that you do not need. A great marinade is simple to make and will only take a few minutes.

Instructions

Preparing the Marinade

1. Cut a large lemon in half on a cutting board. Squeeze half of the lemon juice into a mixing bowl. Discard any seeds. Place the other half of the lemon in the refrigerator.

2. Strip the leaves from a sprig of fresh rosemary. Chop the rosemary leaves into small pieces. Place the rosemary into the mixing bowl.

3. Peel the skin from 3 cloves of garlic. Chop the garlic cloves into small pieces. Scoop up the garlic pieces and place them in the mixing bowl.

4. Pour 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of red wine into the mixing bowl.

5. Add 2 tbsp. of hot sauce and 1 tbsp. of sugar to the marinade.

6. Stir the mixture with a whisk until all the ingredients are mixed thoroughly. Pour the marinade into a large plastic freezer bag.

7. Place the meat into the bag with the marinade. Set the bag inside a large bowl, and then put it in the refrigerator for several hours. Turn the meat over every hour or two to ensure that all sides are completely immersed in the marinade.

8. Remove the meat from the marinade and pat dry before cooking.
