Chocolate strawberries are delicious and easy to prepare.
Offering a variety of finger foods at a party allows guests to sample several sweet and savory snacks without the fuss of a sit-down dinner. The best finger foods are delicious, attractive, fun to eat and easy to make. Try to make at least six different finger foods for a party, according to "Cocktail Food," by Mary Corpening Barber. Aim to include a variety of textures and flavors, such as spicy, sweet, crunchy and flaky.
Cheese
Stick to the basics with a tray of cubed cheese and fresh fruits or a cheese fondue. Alternately, go gourmet with cheese-stuffed mushrooms or cheese cubes marinated in olive oil and spices. Cheese also makes a great base for a dip for veggies or crackers; consider cheese and black bean dips or Mexican-style cheese dip.
Fruit and Veggies
Arrange a colorful variety of fresh vegetables, such as celery, broccoli, carrots and bell pepper strips on a tray with a selection of creamy dips and vinaigrettes. Veggie pastries are also a hit; consider bite-size spinach puff pastries or asparagus spears wrapped in pastry. If you want to add a burst of fresh fruit, make a tropical fruit salsa or set out a fresh fruit tray.
Meat and Poultry
Chicken wings are a timeless party favorite; offer a variety of flavors, such as sweet-and-sour, honey-glazed or traditional Buffalo. Miniature hamburgers or chicken burgers -- serve them on pita bread for an unusual twist -- are also sure to please. For a gourmet treat, wrap slices of melon with prosciutto or top a puff pastry with pepperoni and cheese.
Desserts
Chocolate-dipped fruit, such as strawberries, pineapple, cherries and banana slices, makes a delicious finger food. Chocolate fondue is a fun addition at a party; provide guests with a variety of sliced fruits to dip in the chocolate. Miniature cupcakes, petit fours and homemade chocolate truffles also make scrumptious desserts.
