Make Soy Body Butter

Make Soy Body Butter

Making cosmetic and beauty products at home is a way to make sure you are using only natural ingredients that you feel comfortable exposing yourself to on a daily basis. It is also a craft project that you can do with your children or friends. These homemade products make a thoughtful gift for any occasion. Soy body butter is a good project to start with. It is quick and easy to make with satisfying results.

Instructions

1. Melt the shea butter in a glass mixing bowl inside a pot of water on the stove. Use a double boiler if you have it. Stir it frequently for even heating.

2. Add soybean oil, fragrance, vitamin E oil (if desired) and cornstarch to the melted shea butter and stir well. The cornstarch keeps the lotion from feeling greasy.

3. Take the bowl off the stove and put it into a larger bowl filled with ice water to cool down the shea butter.

4. Whip the mixture with a hand mixer as it cools. Don't let water get into the inner bowl. Mix for several minutes until the mixture forms soft peaks and a whipped, buttery texture.

5. Transfer the body butter to a storage container.
