Salsa, which means "sauce" in Spanish, is a classic Mexican dip, and there are many variations. Many salsas are tomato-based, and among the most common is a rustic salsa called pico de gallo, which translates to "rooster's beak." Pico de gallo is made of fresh vegetables and is commonly served on tacos or with corn chips. The dip is a Mexican staple, and one of the most simple varieties of pico de gallo contains only four main ingredients: tomato, onion, lime juice and cilantro.
Instructions
1. Dice the tomatoes and the onion on a cutting board with a sharp knife. Remember to first remove the stems and stickers from the tomatoes, and slice the ends off the onion and remove its papery outer layer before dicing.
2. Place the diced onion and tomatoes in a large bowl.
3. Cut the lime in half and squeeze the juices from both halves into the bowl.
4. Add the cilantro to the large bowl.
5. Add salt and pepper to taste.
6. Mix the contents of the bowl with a spoon, serve and enjoy.
