Make Hotdogs

You can cook a hotdog in a few minutes with a microwave.

According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, Americans eat 20 billion hotdogs per year, which amounts to 70 hotdogs per person. Hotdogs are cooked sausages that are made out of a combination of pork, beef, chicken and poultry. You can eat hotdogs cold, but most people heat them and serve them on buns, along with some condiments. Many Americans make hotdogs by heating in the microwave oven, grilling on a charcoal grill or boiling in a pot.

Instructions

Cooking in Microwave Oven

1. Cover a paper plate or microwave-safe dish with a paper towel. Put one to four hotdogs on the paper towel. Use the tip of a knife to pierce the middle and the ends of each hotdog. Use another paper towel to cover the hotdogs. Place the plate or dish into the microwave.

2. Set the microwave on high for 30 to 60 seconds, depending on the watts of your microwave. If the hotdogs aren't warm, heat them for another 10 to 15 seconds. Use another paper towel to cover the hotdogs.

3. Place the bun in the microwave for 10 to 15 seconds. If you overheat the bun, it will harden when it cools. Place the hotdog into the bun. Let the hotdog stand for a few minutes if it's too hot to consume at first. Add ketchup, mustard, relish and other condiments to the hotdog.

Cooking on Grill

4. Half-fill your chimney starter with charcoal and one handful of hardwood like apple or hickory. Place 10 to 20 coals on each side of the grill. Make a cone shape with the coals on each side. Pour the lighter fluid onto the charcoal and let it sit for 30 seconds.

5. Use a long match or fire starter to start the charcoal grill. Let the fire decrease in temperature until you can hold your hand over it for 8 to 10 seconds comfortably. Place the hotdogs over the coals on the grill.

6. Place the hotdogs on the grate and use the tongs to roll them every minute or two. Continue rolling the hotdogs until completely heated and browned. Place the hotdog inside a bun. The hotdog will warm the bun. Add condiments to the hotdog.

Boiling in Pot

7. Pour tap water into a pot until it is half full. Turn a burner on your stove on high. Place the pot onto the burner and wait for the water inside to boil.

8. Add the hotdogs into the pot. Cover the pot with a lid. Boil the hotdogs for 3 to 5 minutes. Turn off the heat. Let the hotdogs simmer in the pot for 4 to 7 additional minutes.

9. Take the hotdogs out of the pot and dry them with a paper towel. Microwave the bun for 10 to 15 seconds and place the hotdog inside. Dress up the hotdog with condiments.
