If you are pressed for time in the morning, opt for on-the-go breakfast options.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. However, since mornings can be busy, breakfast sometimes falls by the wayside. In order to have energy to make it through the day, breakfast needs to be part of your daily routine. If you are pressed for time, several healthy, on-the-go breakfast options exist. These choices are portable, quick to prepare and in some cases, can be made in advance.
Wraps
Since all of the ingredients in a wrap are included in a tortilla, it is easy to carry, easy to eat and if made correctly, packed with nutrition. When making your breakfast wrap, choose a whole-grain tortilla instead of white flour or corn tortilla. Corn tortillas fall apart easily and white flour is not as healthy as whole grain. Make a savory wrap with turkey slices or turkey sausage and a slice of mozzarella or Swiss cheese. A sweet wrap can be made with cream cheese, walnuts and fruits like bananas or strawberries. For variety, use flavored cream cheese or peanut butter.
Smoothies
Drinking a smoothie enables you to consume several breakfast foods from a single source. Smoothies can be made with milk, yogurt and fruit. If you have a juice machine, you can toss a variety of fruits and vegetables in and the result is a nutrient-packed juice. Including the skins of fruits and vegetables adds extra fiber. If you don't have a high-powered juicer, you still have plenty of smoothie options. For a decadent smoothie, blend banana, yogurt and honey in a blender with a few ice cubes. For variety, alternate fruits or try Greek or soy yogurt.
Fruit and Nuts
For a healthy breakfast requiring little preparation, eat fruit and nuts. The easiest option is grabbing a handful of walnuts or almonds and a banana. Mix dried fruit with nuts to create a healthy trail mix or add seeds for additional protein. Trail mixes are full of nutrients and healthy fats. However, keep food allergies in mind and be sure you can eat nuts without any type of reaction.
Convenient Frozen Options
While the health benefits may lack what other options provide, numerous on-the-go breakfast options are in the frozen food section of your supermarket. These options include sandwiches with sausage, cheese and ham, French toast sticks and frozen pastries. These options are convenient and may taste delicious, but they are high in calories and filled with preservatives. Other quick frozen options include whole grain toaster waffles, which can be smeared with peanut butter, yogurt or butter.
