Operate A Popcorn Machine

Popcorn machines allow users to make movie-style popcorn at home

Popcorn machines create flavored and movie-style popcorn at home and can be purchased online or through specialty concession retailers. The supplies needed to properly operate the machine and create different types of popcorn are also readily available. Popcorn machines allow users to make large amounts of popcorn and to keep the popcorn warm after the popping has completed by the use of a heat lamp inside the machine. Use caution when operating the popcorn machine, as the machine gets dangerously hot during operation.

Instructions

1. Plug the popcorn machine into a power supply and turn the heat switch to "On." The switch should be near the top front of the machine.

2. Turn on the motor button, located on the top front of the machine. Follow by turning on the heat lamp switch, usually located next to the heat and motor switches.

3. Wait 15 seconds after turning on the heat switch before pouring the oil into the kettle. Popcorn oil, usually made from coconut oil, is available at many grocery stores, food specialty stores or online. The ratio of oil to popcorn should be 1:2.

4. Wait 10 seconds before pouring popcorn kernels and salt into the kettle. The size of the popcorn machine kettle will determine the necessary amount of popcorn kernels. For instance, if the kettle is 4 oz., use 4 oz. of popcorn kernels. Add salt to taste, typically 1 tbsp. of salt per cup of popcorn kernels.

5. Wait for the popcorn to begin popping and listen closely for the popping to begin slowing in intensity. When the popping begins to slow, turn off the heat kettle switch and wait for the popcorn to stop popping. Turn off the motor switch.

6. Use the kettle handle to gently pour the popcorn into the bottom of the machine. Leave the heat lamp on until you are finished with the machine and then turn off the heat-lamp switch.
