Melt Chocolate For Dipped Cookies

Chocolate-dipped cookies.

For chocolate lovers, dipping anything in chocolate makes it that much better. It can turn any sweet treat or dessert into something decadent and indulgent. There is a variety of things that can be dipped in chocolate, from strawberries and pretzels to cookies. Dipping chocolate chip cookies, shortbread cookies or any other type in milk chocolate, dark or white, takes it over the top. It's a delicious way to take a simple cookie and make it a gourmet treat. The key to making a chocolate-dipped cookie is properly melting the chocolate.

Instructions

Using a Double Boiler

1. Chop chocolate bar or squares into small pieces. There is no need to cut the chocolate if you are using chocolate chips.

2. Put a small amount of water into the bottom of the double boiler and place it over low heat.

3. Put the chocolate pieces into the upper pan. Use a spoon and continually stir the chocolate pieces until they are melted. Turn off the heat and your chocolate is ready for dipping.

Using the Microwave

4. Chop your chocolate into small pieces, as previously mentioned. Place the chocolate inside a microwave safe bowl.

5. Set your microwave at 50 percent power and microwave the chocolate for 30 seconds. Check the chocolate and continue to microwave the chocolate for 30 second intervals, stirring it each time. Change time intervals to smaller increments, like 5 seconds, once the chocolate is almost melted.

6. Once chocolate is melted, stir it one last time to make sure it's smooth. Then carefully remove bowl from the microwave and begin dipping cookies.

Using Direct Heat

7. Chop chocolate as previously directed and place into a heavy saucepan. Place on the stove over very low heat and continuously stir.

8. Once the chocolate is about 50 percent melted, remove the saucepan from the heat.

9. Continue to stir chocolate until it is completely melted and smooth. Begin dipping cookies.
