Make Homemade Peach Preserves

Capture the taste of summer in a jar by making your own peach preserves.

The sweetness of fresh peaches makes them perfect for preserves. Peach preserves are simple to make and make it possible to enjoy the taste of summertime peaches year-round. You'll be so glad you took the time when you spread them over a warm biscuit on a cold winter morning.

Instructions

1. Peel the skin off the peaches using a sharp paring knife. Cut the peaches open and remove all pits. Crush the peaches to yield 6 cups. The riper the peaches, the better. If you like a thinner consistency, feel free to process some of the peaches in a food processor until smooth.

2. Place 6 cups of crushed peaches, 2 cups of crushed pineapple, and 8 cups of granulated sugar into a saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook 20 minutes.

3. Remove the peach mixture from the heat, and stir in two small boxes of orange gelatin. Stir well until the orange gelatin is completely dissolved. Pour peach preserves into hot, clean canning jars. Wipe the tops of the jars clean and process in a warm water bath.

4. Store the sealed jars of peach preserves in a cool place until ready to serve. After opening, store preserves in the refrigerator.
